Overview:
Takin.solutions implemented the Max Planck History of Science Project Description Layer Model (PDLM) using the Arches platform to create SemCMD, a semantic registry of research projects and associated resources. The PDLM provides a structured framework for describing projects, datasets, digital objects, and services, while the Parthenos Entities Ontology underpins the semantic structure.
Scope of Work:
- Implemented PDLM in Arches, mapping projects, datasets, digital objects, and research services
- Aligned the model with the Parthenos Entities Ontology and CIDOC CRM principles
- Documented the semantic patterns using Zellij, creating reusable, standardized documentation
- Defined controlled vocabularies, context types, and property usage for consistent implementation
- Provided guidance on linking digital objects, service observations, and maintaining semantic clarity
Outcome:
SemCMD delivers a semantically rich, interoperable, and maintainable registry for MPIWG, enabling detailed tracking of projects, resources, and relationships. The implementation supports future extensions, provides clear documentation for users, and serves as a reusable model for other institutions managing research metadata.
