Ogee Arches – Linked.Art in Arches for Cultural Heritage

📅 2021 – 2025

Overview:

Takin.solutions collaborated with Getty Digital (GDI) to create Ogee Arches, a fully open-source, ready-to-deploy implementation of the Linked.Art data model on the Arches platform. The project provides a starter package for institutions and researchers aiming to adopt Linked.Art and CIDOC-CRM standards, lowering barriers to entry for semantic data management in cultural heritage.

Purpose of Our Work:

The Ogee Arches project was designed to give the community a fully implemented, documented, and reusable Linked.Art implementation

in Arches, enabling projects to start immediately with canonical semantic models, standard vocabulary, and clear guidance on best practices. It supports end-to-end semantic data workflows while allowing customization to fit individual project requirements.

Methodology:

  • Implemented Linked.Art data models in Arches following the canonical model structure and API specifications
  • Developed a defined vocabulary for reference data points, pre-populated with Getty AAT terms and ready for extension
  • Produced modular semantic documentation using the Zellij platform, enabling clear understanding and reuse of models, fields, and implementation practices
  • Provided guidance on best practices for semantic data modelling, management, and integration

Outcome:

  • A ready-to-use Arches package implementing all eleven Linked.Art models, with full semantic documentation and structured reference data
  • Facilitated community adoption of Linked.Art, CIDOC-CRM, and semantic data management principles
  • Provided a foundation for future projects to extend, prune, or customize models according to their datasets
  • Open-source release ensuring broad accessibility and reuse by museums, archives, and research institutions

Takin.solutions’ Role:

Takin.solutions acted as conceptual modelling, semantic documentation, and implementation partner, applying the Semantic Reference Data Modelling (SRDM) methodology to:

  • Precisely document the semantic implementation of Linked.Art in Arches
  • Ensure accurate, interoperable representation of the models, fields, and reference vocabularies
  • Enable reuse, adaptation, and extension of the semantic patterns by the broader community
