Max Planck Institute for the History of Science – Project Data and Lifecycle Management Conceptual Modelling and Semantic Documentation Support

📅 2023 – 2023

Overview:

Takin.solutions supported MPIWG in the conceptual modelling and semantic documentation of the PDLM (Project Data and Lifecycle Management) model, providing guidance on sustainable data practices for research infrastructure tracking. The work focused on using the Parthenos Entities model, aligning with CRMpe standards, and creating a robust, reusable semantic documentation framework using Zellij.

Scope of Work:

  • Consulted on semantic modeling for PDLM, including entity definitions, service modeling, and relationships between persistent and volatile digital objects
  • Developed semantic documentation in Zellij, translating conceptual models into reusable patterns for governance and implementation
  • Provided guidance on mapping, controlled vocabularies, and alignment with external standards including CRMpe and Linked.Art
  • Recommended strategies for sustainability, including pattern maintenance, competency questions, and query templates

Outcomes:

  • A comprehensive PDLM semantic model, simplifying classes while preserving essential functionality
  • Full Zellij-based documentation of PDLM patterns, enabling reproducible implementation and future extension
  • Enhanced MPIWG capacity to manage, implement, and maintain complex semantic models in research infrastructure

Takin.solutions Role:

Acted as conceptual modeler, semantic documentation expert, and advisor, supporting MPIWG in modeling, documenting, and operationalizing the PDLM model using best practices in semantic data management.
