Project Context:
Takin.solutions was engaged by Farallon to support the Getty in its aim to standardize the documentation and management of semantic models within its Arches instances to ensure consistency, interoperability, and sustainable use across multiple research and operational contexts. This included Arches implementations for research (DISCO / Arches for Science) and archival systems (Provenance Index), as well as ongoing conceptual and Reference Data Manager redesign efforts.
Scope & Key Activities:
- Semantic Model Documentation: Develop protocols and standardized formats for documenting Arches-based semantic models, using reusable patterns such as LinkedArt, to support users, developers, and conceptual modellers.
- Arches Instance Sign-Off: Create a standardized procedure for testing, documenting, and delivering Arches instances for operational deployment.
- Project-Specific Documentation: Produce robust, reusable documentation for the DISCO / Arches for Science instance and the Provenance Index instance, following the established protocols and formats.
- Conceptual Modelling Support: Address ongoing semantic modelling challenges, including redesigning the Reference Data Manager and extending existing models as needed.
- Engagement with Arches Development: Monitor and contribute to Arches system development, ensuring semantic modelling and documentation practices remain aligned with evolving functionality.
Outcome:
A fully standardized, documented, and interoperable set of Arches instances and semantic models, supporting sustainable data management, easier maintenance, and enhanced research and operational workflows across the Getty.
