Project Context / Objective:
The Getty Conservation Institute, in collaboration with Historic England and other knowledge organization specialist organizations, sought to develop an Arches-based application to manage authority data and controlled vocabularies for cultural heritage. The project aimed to create a community-focused platform that would enable the collaborative development, maintenance, and dissemination of reference data. By providing a robust, standards-based environment for terminology management, Arches Lingo supports interoperability with other systems and serves as a canonical source for trusted vocabularies in the heritage sector.
Takin.Solutions’ Role / Contributions:
Takin.Solutions contributed to Arches Lingo by providing conceptual modeling and semantic documentation expertise. Our work focused on structuring the resource models and workflows to accommodate complex hierarchies, contributor processes, and lifecycle management of authority data, ensuring both usability and semantic rigor.

- Developed and refined conceptual models for controlled vocabularies, schemes, and concepts within Arches Lingo.
- Ensured interoperability with multiple export formats, including CSV, SKOS, and JSON-LD, for integration with Arches and non-Arches systems.

The project enabled controlled vocabularies to be widely shared, integrated, and reused across heritage organizations, supporting education, research, and interoperability within the cultural heritage sector.
